Payments Officer (Maternity Cover)

About the role

Equiti, a fast‑growing fintech firm, is seeking a Payments Officer on a maternity cover basis to join its Retail Operations team in Nairobi. The role focuses on delivering a seamless payment experience for internal teams and clients while supporting the company’s high‑performance environment.

Key responsibilities

• Process and monitor all deposit transactions (banks, e‑banking, e‑wallets, cards, exchange houses).
• Process and monitor withdrawal requests across the same channels.
• Handle indemnification requests and urgent credit approvals to protect client margins.
• Assist internal and external clients with payment‑related queries and guide them on using the client portal.
• Manage client complaints professionally and coordinate with relevant departments or PSPs.
• Report and follow up on technical issues until resolution.
• Prepare handover documents for morning shifts, including withdrawal batches and tickets.
• Support daily payment reconciliation to prevent misappropriation.
• Conduct compliance, risk and fraud checks in line with AML regulations.
• Assist senior staff with ad‑hoc reports, investigations and follow‑up with banks/PSPs on missing payments.
• Handle confidential information in accordance with data protection laws.

Required profile

• Self‑starter capable of working with minimal supervision.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to adapt in a fast‑paced environment.
• Effective communication skills for building relationships and explaining complex issues.

Required skills

• Fluent in spoken and written Swahili and English.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office.
