Regional Finance Director – Great Lakes Region

About the role

The Regional Finance Director will lead the finance function for the Great Lakes region, ensuring robust financial infrastructure and compliance across country programs. Reporting to the Director of International Finance and the Regional VP, the role is based in Nairobi with occasional travel to field offices.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic financial analysis and support to the Regional VP, contributing to country program strategic plans and annual budgets.
• Oversee financial and accounting management, ensuring accurate transaction recording, strong internal controls, and donor compliance.
• Lead financial systems improvement, act as Integra super‑user, and support rollout and training of new finance software (MS D365).
• Conduct regional finance support visits, risk assessments, and audit follow‑up, delivering monthly financial health reviews.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; Master’s, CPA or equivalent is a plus.
• Minimum five years progressive finance/accounting experience in the non‑profit sector, with multi‑cultural international exposure.
• Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP, fund accounting and donor regulations (US Government, EU).
