Senior Consultant / Project Manager – Renewable Energy (PV & Rural Electrification)

About the role

Fichtner is seeking an experienced senior consultant to lead photovoltaic (PV) and rural electrification projects from our Nairobi office. The role combines technical expertise, project delivery, and business development within an international consulting environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage PV projects through feasibility, design, tendering, construction supervision, commissioning and operation.
• Provide technical consulting to developers, investors, lenders, utilities and public‑sector clients.
• Act as project manager and technical focal point for national and international assignments.
• Perform technical assessments, feasibility studies, owner‑engineer services and due‑diligence activities.
• Review designs, specifications, EPC deliverables and commissioning results.
• Support integration of battery energy storage systems (BESS) into hybrid PV projects.
• Contribute to rural electrification, mini‑grids, off‑grid power systems and solar home‑system projects.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and manage stakeholder interfaces.
• Assist in proposal preparation and business development to expand the renewable‑energy portfolio.

Required profile

• University degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in Electrical, Energy, Renewable Energy, Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 8 years of professional experience in PV and renewable‑energy projects.
• Proven experience in technical consulting, engineering or project management for utility‑scale or commercial PV projects.
• Strong understanding of PV system design, yield assessment, grid integration and construction processes.
