Swahili-English Translator Consultant (Short-term)

About the role

Q2Impact is seeking an experienced Swahili-English Translator Consultant to support a short-term evaluation assignment in Kenya. The consultant will provide real-time interpretation during qualitative data collection activities such as key informant interviews, ensuring accurate communication between interviewers and respondents.

Key responsibilities

• Provide consecutive interpretation support during KIIs and other stakeholder interviews.
• Assist the evaluation team by ensuring clear, accurate, and complete communication.
• Clarify interview notes and review translated content for accuracy and consistency.
• Coordinate with team members to maintain consistent terminology aligned with evaluation objectives.
• Support qualitative data collection activities in a professional and confidential manner.

Required profile

• Native or near-native fluency in Swahili and English.
• Demonstrated experience delivering written translation and oral interpretation services.
• Prior experience supporting qualitative data collection such as KIIs or interviews.
• Experience translating technical, infrastructure, energy, or development-sector materials.
• Strong attention to detail with ability to convey nuance and technical concepts.
• Ability to work independently under a short-term consulting arrangement.
