Training Consultant – Land Acquisition, Resettlement & Rehabilitation

About the role
Devimpact Institute is looking for an experienced consultant to design and deliver a professional training programme on land acquisition, involuntary resettlement and livelihood restoration. The role will be based in Nairobi and will target government agencies, development partners and project teams involved in inclusive project development.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and present case studies, practical exercises, templates and participant resources tailored to land acquisition and resettlement.
- Facilitate workshops on Resettlement Action Plan design, compensation simulations, stakeholder consultation role‑plays and grievance mediation.
- Guide participants in creating livelihood restoration plans and post‑resettlement monitoring frameworks.
- Provide constructive feedback and adapt training delivery to meet diverse learning objectives.
- Ensure training content aligns with Kenyan regulations and international safeguard standards (World Bank ESS5, IFC PS5).
Required profile
- Advanced degree in social development, land management, environmental and social safeguards, urban planning, development studies or a related field.
- Minimum ten years of professional experience in land acquisition, involuntary resettlement and livelihood restoration for development or infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience preparing, implementing, reviewing or monitoring Resettlement Action Plans and livelihood restoration plans.
- Strong knowledge of Kenyan legal requirements and international safeguard frameworks (World Bank ESS5, IFC Performance Standard 5).
- Demonstrated ability to conduct stakeholder consultations, engage vulnerable groups and manage grievances.
- Track record of facilitating training for government agencies, development partners or project teams.
