WHO‑AFRO IHR Secretariat Support Staff (Volunteer)

About the role

The WHO‑AFRO IHR Secretariat is looking for a Volunteer Support Staff member to assist the IHR Contact Point in Nairobi. The role provides administrative and operational assistance to strengthen communication and coordination with IHR National Focal Points and Member States.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and update databases of IHR National Focal Points, National IHR Authorities and regional experts.
• Prepare reports, briefing notes and technical documents for the Secretariat.
• Track 24/7 communications between WHO‑AFRO and Member States on IHR‑related notifications.
• Provide technical and administrative input to capacity‑building activities such as workshops, training and simulation exercises.
• Assist in monitoring the implementation of the IHR Monitoring and Evaluation Framework and related KPIs.
• Support the tracking of the Framework for the Implementation of the 2024 amendments to IHR 2005.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the IHR Contact Point.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Public Health (essential); medical degree with IHR specialization is desirable.
• Minimum three years of experience in IHR implementation, public health emergency preparedness or a related field.
• Experience with WHO, UN agencies or intergovernmental organizations is an advantage.
