CoE Lead Safety, Workspace & Wellbeing

About the role

The CoE Lead Safety, Workspace & Wellbeing reports to the Chief People Officer and is responsible for shaping Safaricom’s safety, health, wellbeing and workplace strategy. The role drives a shift from reactive, compliance‑focused processes to proactive, data‑led and AI‑enabled practices that embed safety and wellbeing into everyday work.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver a safe, compliant, high‑performing physical and hybrid work environment aligned with AI‑first and commercial intensity goals.
• Lead the transformation of safety and workplace management to predictive, data‑driven systems, reducing hazardous exposure.
• Develop and own the enterprise safety, health and wellbeing strategy, integrating it with performance, engagement and productivity agendas.
• Oversee property management, optimise footprint, and drive disciplined cost management.
• Partner with HR, Technology, Finance and business leaders to ensure consistent governance, compliance and capability uplift across Safaricom and its subsidiaries.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in safety, health, wellbeing or workplace strategy within a large, complex organization.
• Strong track record of driving enterprise‑wide transformation and embedding data‑driven decision making.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills, able to influence C‑level executives and cross‑functional teams.
• Strategic thinker with a focus on future‑fit, agile work environments.

Required skills

• Experience with AI‑enabled or digital safety platforms (explicit tools not specified).
• Data analytics and predictive modelling capabilities.
• Knowledge of governance, risk management and compliance frameworks.
