Assistant Director, HR Management

About the role

The Kenya Veterinary Board is seeking an experienced HR professional to lead staff development, performance systems and organisational policy. This senior, full‑time position is based in Nairobi and reports to senior management. The role combines strategic HR planning with hands‑on implementation of HR programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret and implement HR policies, including pensions, salary administration and labour law compliance.
• Develop and maintain the human resource management information system.
• Manage succession planning and forecast HR development needs.
• Administer employment contracts, pensions and gratuities.
• Advise on optimal deployment of staff across the Board.
• Lead the design and delivery of training and staff development programmes.
• Supervise payroll processing and ensure statutory compliance.
• Conduct training needs assessments and coordinate development initiatives.
• Manage industrial relations and employee wellness programmes, including counselling and health initiatives.
• Oversee recruitment, selection, disciplinary processes and performance appraisal implementation.

Required profile

• At least 12 years of relevant HR experience, including 3 years at a senior grade such as Principal Human Resource Management Officer.
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management or related field; a postgraduate diploma or Master’s degree in HR, Public Administration, Industrial Relations or a comparable discipline.
• Professional HR certification (e.g., Certified Human Resource Professional) and membership in IHRM or a similar body.
• Completion of a recognised leadership course of minimum four weeks.
• Proficiency in computer applications.
