About the role
The Aviation Plating Shop Technician works in a technical workshop to perform electro‑plating and surface‑treatment operations on aircraft components. The role ensures that parts meet airworthiness, corrosion‑protection and dimensional restoration requirements in line with approved maintenance procedures and industry standards.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out electro‑plating processes (cadmium, nickel, chrome) according to engineering specifications and maintenance manuals.
- Prepare components by cleaning, degreasing, masking and surface finishing before plating.
- Operate and maintain plating tanks, rectifiers and solution chemistry, monitoring voltage, current, immersion time, pH, temperature and concentration.
- Perform anodising, passivation, chemical etching and conversion‑coating (e.g., Alodine) as required.
- Interpret technical drawings, repair schemes and standards such as AMS, MIL and OEM specifications.
- Record all work in job cards, plating logs and component history documents.
- Conduct visual and dimensional inspections using gauges, micrometers and, where qualified, nondestructive testing.
- Follow safety, health and environmental protocols for handling hazardous chemicals and waste.
- Assist in bath maintenance, waste treatment and periodic chemical testing (titration, specific gravity).
Required profile
- Diploma in Electroplating, Applied Sciences, Aircraft Maintenance or Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum three years of experience in aerospace plating or surface‑finishing environments.
- Familiarity with aviation specifications (e.g., AMS 2404, AMS 2401, MIL‑DTL‑5541) and quality systems such as ISO 9001, ISO/IEC 17025 or AS9100.
- Relevant safety or HazMat handling certifications; NASF Certified Electroplater Finisher (CEF) is a plus.
