About the role
The Curriculum Development Specialist will lead the design and harmonisation of occupational standards and curricula for the Kenya Blue Economy Skills Training Program (KBEST). Working from Nairobi, the role supports partnerships between Canadian and Kenyan TVET institutions and government agencies to create competency‑based training for sectors such as fisheries, aquaculture, tourism, and maritime trades.
Key responsibilities
- Support the KBEST Occupational Standards Harmonisation partnership to identify and define required occupational standards.
- Develop qualifications, curricula and associated training materials for blue‑economy sub‑sectors.
- Coordinate with 11 KBEST institutional partnerships and TVET authorities (TVETA, CDACC, KMA) to approve and launch CBET programmes.
- Monitor progress of curriculum development and implementation, providing technical guidance to partner institutions.
- Facilitate stakeholder engagement with the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs, and county governments.
- Travel within Kenya as needed to support institutional partners and conduct field assessments.
Required profile
- Proven experience in curriculum design or vocational education, preferably in blue‑economy or related technical fields.
- Strong knowledge of occupational standards, TVET systems and competency‑based training frameworks.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multi‑stakeholder teams, including government agencies and international partners.
- Excellent communication and analytical skills, with willingness to travel across Kenya.
