Microbiology Laboratory Analyst – Mombasa

About the role

The Microbiology Laboratory Analyst will conduct microbial testing of samples in compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 and GLP standards, supporting SGS's laboratory services in Mombasa, Kenya. The role involves ensuring accurate, reliable results while adhering to strict turnaround times and health‑safety protocols.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct microbial testing analysis of samples according to SOPs, national and international standards, and client guidelines.
• Maintain compliance with the laboratory’s QA/QC system, ISO/IEC 17025, and GLP where applicable.
• Ensure set turnaround times are met and client testing requirements are fully satisfied.
• Follow health and safety measures for hygiene, sample handling, retention, and disposal.
• Keep up‑to‑date with analytical standards and develop new methods for validation and adoption.
• Maintain organized work records, samples, and auxiliary documents for easy retrieval.

Required profile

• Degree in Microbiology, Food Nutrition, Food Science and Technology or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum two years of laboratory testing experience, preferably in a multi‑purpose laboratory.
• Good knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025, ISO 9001, GLP, HACCP and HSE standards.

Required skills

• Microbial testing analysis following SOPs and client guidelines.
• Operation of laboratory equipment such as incubators, ovens, autoclaves and biosafety cabinets.
• Implementation of QA/QC systems and compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 and GLP.
