Safety Officer – Construction Site HSE Specialist

About the role

We are appointing a Safety Officer for a construction contract in Nairobi. The role is based on‑site at all times and includes preparing the monthly HSE report for the Engineer and ensuring readiness for DOSHS or NEMA inspections.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver site inductions and daily toolbox talks.
• Prepare risk assessments and job safety analyses for high‑risk activities such as excavations, scaffolding, lifting, work at height and hot works.
• Inspect the site daily, enforce PPE, edge protection, safe access and housekeeping, and stop any unsafe work.
• Maintain safety registers, inspection records, incident and near‑miss reports.
• Compile and submit the monthly HSE report to the Engineer.
• Read ahead in the programme to put controls in place before each high‑risk phase.

Required profile

• Demonstrates a firm commitment to safety, refusing unsafe work even under pressure.
• Communicates risks clearly, maintains crew respect and enforces rules without being swayed by seniority.

Required skills

• Degree or HND in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science, Building Technology or related field.
• Minimum three years experience as a safety officer on live construction sites.
• Registered, or immediately registrable, with DOSHS as a safety adviser.
• Experience conducting site audits and preparing monthly HSE reports independently.
• Working knowledge of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 2007, NEMA regulations and NCA requirements.
• NEBOSH International General Certificate (strong advantage).
• Experience on projects with client‑run safety regimes such as Tatu City (strong advantage).
