Accountant / Finance Officer

About the role

Our client is seeking an Accountant/Finance Officer to oversee payroll processing, statutory compliance and related financial administration for warehouse staff across Mombasa, Nairobi and Eldoret.

Key responsibilities

• Process monthly payroll for daily‑rate warehouse staff, ensuring accurate base pay, overtime and statutory deductions.
• Calculate and apply PAYE, NSSF (Tier I & II), SHIF, Affordable Housing Levy and NITA levy in line with current KRA rates.
• Prepare and submit detailed monthly invoices to clients by the 5th of the following month.
• File statutory returns via iTax, NSSF and SHIF portals and remit contributions before deadlines.
• Maintain payroll registers, payslips, general ledgers and attendance records for audit and compliance purposes.
• Reconcile invoiced hours and headcounts against attendance registers to avoid billing discrepancies.
• Ensure timely payment of wages to workers and issue payslips for each pay period.
• Manage bank accounts, petty cash and supplier payments related to the labour contract.
• Support HR with payroll‑related grievance queries while complying with the Kenya Data Protection Act.
• Prepare financial data for vendor scorecards, KPI reporting and quarterly performance reviews.
• Stay updated on changes to Kenyan payroll legislation and adjust processes accordingly.

Required profile

• Minimum CPA Part II or equivalent professional accounting qualification.
• At least 3 years of experience in payroll and finance administration, preferably in labour outsourcing, logistics or manufacturing.
• Strong knowledge of Kenyan statutory payroll requirements (NSSF, SHIF, Housing Levy, NITA, PAYE, WIBA).

Required skills

• High proficiency in MS Excel.
• Experience with payroll/accounting software.
