About the role
The Animal Attendant provides daily care for laboratory animals used in research and teaching at Maseno University. This entry‑level position supports students and researchers by ensuring animal welfare and compliance with ethical standards.
Key responsibilities
- Provide daily care for laboratory animals such as mice, rats, and rabbits, including feeding, cleaning, and health monitoring.
- Observe animals for signs of illness, maintain hygiene in animal facilities, and record observations.
- Assist learners and researchers with animal restraint, vaccination, dissections, sample collection, and treatment administration.
- Perform additional duties assigned by the supervisor.
Required profile
- Certificate in Animal Health Production, Animal Husbandry, Veterinary Technology or equivalent.
- Minimum two years’ experience working with laboratory animals.
- KCSE mean grade of D+ or higher.
- Familiarity with laboratory animal care protocols and ethical regulations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Required skills
- Animal handling and restraint techniques.
- Data entry and record‑keeping for animal health logs.
- Practical demonstration of procedures for undergraduate students.
