About the role
The City of Cleveland is seeking qualified candidates to take a civil service examination for the position of Asphalt Tamper. Successful applicants will be placed on an eligible list for future openings in municipal road maintenance.
Key responsibilities
- Operate tamping equipment to compact asphalt around joints and seams.
- Shovel and spread hot mix asphalt from delivery trucks evenly.
- Cut, tear out, and repair defective pavement sections.
- Clean and prepare holes, trim joints for patches, and tend fires as needed.
Required profile
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum four years of full‑time paid asphalt work or municipal service laborer experience with hot mix asphalt.
- Valid State of Ohio driver’s license.
- Ability to lift and carry at least 75 pounds.
Required skills
- Hot mix asphalt handling.
- Asphalt tamping techniques.
