Associate Advocate - Litigation and Disputes

About the role

A reputable Nairobi law firm, recruiting through Stratostaff East Africa, is looking for an Associate Advocate to join its litigation and disputes team. The firm covers civil, commercial, employment and constitutional law and is expanding. The role suits a dynamic advocate with at least three years of post-admission litigation experience, strong work ethic and genuine passion for courtroom practice.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare pleadings, witness statements, affidavits, submissions, legal opinions and other litigation documents, and conduct legal research on case law, statutes and precedents
• Manage litigation files, track deadlines, update case logs and compile court bundles
• Represent clients at all levels of court, tribunals and alternative dispute resolution forums such as arbitration and mediation, handling mentions, hearings, applications and trials independently or under the Senior Partner's supervision
• Draft and review correspondence with clients, opposing counsel, government bodies and regulators
• Attend client meetings, draft engagement letters and client updates, and maintain confidentiality
• Collaborate with colleagues, take part in training and case reviews, and mentor junior team members
• Stay compliant with internal procedures and professional standards, and keep up with developments in civil, commercial and constitutional law

Required profile

• Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from a recognized university
• Postgraduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law
• Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a valid practising certificate
• Minimum of 3 years' post-admission experience in litigation and dispute resolution
• Experience managing litigation files, preparing court documents and representing clients in judicial and quasi-judicial forums
