Audit Intern - Internal Audit

About the role

Express Shipping and Logistics (EA), a third-party logistics, clearing and forwarding and shipping service provider serving sub-Saharan Africa, is hiring an Audit Intern in Mombasa through its Future Leadership Program, which began in 2015 and is now in its 17th cohort. The internship offers exposure to internal audit and compliance work.

Key responsibilities

• Internal audit support: review financial and operational records, carry out risk assessments and review of internal controls, collect, check and organise audit evidence and prepare audit working papers.
• Analyse data, identify discrepancies and document audit findings, and prepare audit reports.
• Ensure compliance with organisational policies, procedures and regulatory requirements, follow up on agreed audit actions and keep supporting documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration, Economics, Risk Management or a related field.
• Professional accounting or auditing studies (CPA, ACCA, CIA, CISA, CFE) completed or in progress is an advantage.
• Entry-level candidates may be considered; 1-2 years' experience in auditing, accounting, finance, compliance, risk management or internal controls is preferable.
• Experience from an audit internship or graduate-trainee programme may be accepted.
• Exposure to logistics, shipping, transport, warehousing or similar operations is desirable.
• No unresolved disciplinary, fraud or integrity issues, and willingness to comply with the code of conduct and internal audit charter.

Required skills

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, accuracy and attention to detail.
• Good written and verbal communication, sound judgement, professional skepticism and confidentiality.
• Ability to work independently and in a team, with planning, organisation and time management.
• Basic understanding of internal auditing, risk assessment, internal controls, accounting and financial reporting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint; familiarity with ERP systems or data-analysis tools is an advantage.
