Avocado Out‑Grower Field Assistant

About the role

The Avocado Out‑Grower Field Assistant supports external avocado growers by delivering on‑site extension services, coordinating harvest activities, and ensuring that fruit moves from farm to packhouse with the required quality, safety and traceability standards.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical guidance on avocado production, GAP, orchard establishment, pruning, irrigation, nutrition and sustainable agro‑chemical use.
• Visit farms regularly to assess tree health, fruit development, estimate yields and monitor pest‑disease pressure.
• Plan, supervise and train harvest crews to pick fruit at the correct maturity, handle it safely and maintain field hygiene.
• Perform first‑level quality checks, oversee sorting, grading and field packing, and ensure proper use of crates and packaging.
• Coordinate collection schedules, supervise loading of trucks, and guarantee prompt transport to the packhouse.
• Maintain harvest records, delivery logs and farmer traceability data in line with GlobalG.A.P. and organic certifications.
• Prepare daily and weekly activity reports and act as the communication link between farmers, transporters and packhouse teams.

Required profile

• Degree or Diploma in Agriculture, Horticulture, Agronomy or a related field.
• 1–3 years of experience in field agriculture, fresh‑produce handling or out‑grower programs.
• Practical experience with avocado harvesting and post‑harvest handling is an advantage.
• Willingness to work long or flexible hours during harvest seasons.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of avocado maturity, harvesting and quality standards.
• Organizational and logistics coordination abilities.
• Capability to supervise field labour and interact with smallholder farmers.
• Basic record‑keeping and reporting competence.
