Biomedical Engineer

About the role

Tenwek Hospital in Nairobi's Westlands is looking for a Biomedical Engineer to design, develop, test, install, calibrate and maintain medical equipment and devices used in its healthcare facilities. The role also involves supporting healthcare staff and working with clinical teams to keep equipment reliable and compliant.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and test medical equipment and devices, ensuring they meet safety and performance standards.
• Modify and customize existing equipment to improve functionality and efficiency.
• Install, calibrate and maintain medical equipment so it performs reliably.
• Provide technical support and training to healthcare personnel on the use and maintenance of equipment.
• Conduct research and work with healthcare professionals to solve equipment-related problems.
• Evaluate new technologies and equipment for possible integration into the hospital.
• Develop and implement quality assurance procedures to meet regulatory standards.
• Manage and document equipment inventory, including maintenance schedules and service records.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses and technicians to optimise equipment use and patient care.
• Keep up with biomedical engineering advances through continuous learning.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering or a related field from a recognised institution.
• AMEK (Association of Medical Engineers) membership.
• At least 3 years of experience in a biomedical field or related field.
