Budget and Programming Assistant (SC 5)

About the role

The World Food Programme (WFP) is hiring a Budget and Programming Assistant (SC 5) in Nairobi. The role provides technical support for the efficient planning, monitoring and analysis of project financial performance, helping to optimise the use of financial resources.

Key responsibilities

• Review budget plans and monitor and analyse project financial performance, making recommendations in line with WFP financial policies and best practice.
• Analyse fund and grant balances, flag discrepancies to the supervisor and support fund utilisation and decision-making.
• Support pipeline management to prevent and address pipeline breaks.
• Enter data accurately into corporate systems on time, compile data, keep accurate records and prepare periodic and ad hoc reports.
• Maintain communication with colleagues on project funds management and clarify discrepancies.
• Provide guidance and on-the-job training to other staff on budget planning, fund management and operational planning.
• Follow emergency preparedness practices so resources can be deployed quickly when crises arise.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, commerce, business administration, economics or a related field from a recognised university.
• A recognised professional accounting qualification such as ACCA or CPA, or advanced progress towards it.
• Five or more years of work experience in finance, commerce, business administration, economics or a related field.
• Fluency (level C) in English.
• Desired: experience preparing complex financial documents, budget analysis and collecting pipeline data.
