Casual Commis Chef (Nairobi)

About the role

Sawari Hospitality Solutions is seeking a Casual Commis Chef to support its kitchen operations in Westlands, Nairobi. The role involves assisting senior chefs in preparing high‑quality dishes for an upscale hotel or fine‑dining environment. Candidates will work in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure kitchen and must be flexible to work evenings, weekends and holidays.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation of high‑quality dishes under senior chef guidance, following recipes, portion controls and presentation standards.
• Receive, inspect and store ingredients, ensuring freshness, quality and compliance with health and safety regulations.
• Develop cooking techniques by working with various kitchen equipment and tools.
• Collaborate with kitchen sections to maintain smooth workflow and manage designated stations during service.
• Support quality control by adhering to recipes, cooking methods and participating in tastings and evaluations.
• Maintain strict hygiene and sanitation practices, including regular handwashing and proper protective gear.
• Provide assistance in menu development and testing as needed.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Commis Chef in an upscale hotel or fine‑dining restaurant (preferred).
• Culinary degree, diploma or equivalent training.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 kg.
• Capability to work efficiently in a high‑pressure, fast‑paced environment.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
