Chief Financial Officer - Hospital

About the role

A hospital in Nairobi is looking for a Chief Financial Officer to provide strategic financial leadership. The CFO advises management and the board on financial performance and business sustainability, leads budgeting, forecasting and financial planning, and ensures accurate and timely financial reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse profitability of all services and departments, determine true costs versus revenue, and recommend pricing, expansion, outsourcing or discontinuation of unprofitable services
• Analyse bed occupancy, patient volumes and workforce costs against revenue performance
• Drive revenue growth and protection, eliminate revenue leakage, ensure accurate billing and collection, and set controls so charges cannot be altered without approval
• Conduct market analysis and pricing reviews, benchmark charges against competitors, and evaluate insurance contracts, SHA packages and corporate arrangements
• Strengthen SHA and insurance claim management, reduce claim rejections and delays, and lead end-to-end optimization of SmartCare billing and revenue cycle processes
• Improve cash flow, monitor debt collection and minimize overdue receivables
• Strengthen procurement controls, promote value for money and support inventory and expenditure management
• Implement audit recommendations, maintain risk management systems and ensure compliance with policies and regulations
• Lead and mentor the Finance, Billing, Claims, Credit Control and Procurement teams

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Commerce, Economics or a related field; Master's degree is an added advantage
• CPA(K) qualification and membership in good standing
• At least 8 years of progressive finance experience, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership position
• Experience in healthcare finance is a strong advantage

Required skills

• Demonstrated experience in financial analysis, budgeting, cash flow management, claims management, pricing analysis and business performance evaluation
• Strong understanding of SHA, insurance claims, revenue cycle management and hospital operations
• Excellent analytical, leadership and decision-making skills
