Chief Legal Officer (AN-Scale KMTC 5)

About the role

The Kenya Medical Training College is recruiting a Chief Legal Officer (AN-Scale KMTC 5) based in Westlands, Nairobi. The post provides legal advice to the College, manages litigation and contracts, and ensures compliance with constitutional and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal guidance on contractual and statutory obligations binding on the College
• Interpret legal information, train staff and disseminate legal requirements
• Safeguard the College's interests and defend them in court
• Manage, review and monitor all outstanding litigation and liaise with the appointed Advocates
• Ensure compliance with constitutional, regulatory and other laws and manage contractual risks
• Maintain records of enforcement and compliance assignments and develop accountability structures
• Maintain a register of regulations, rules, guidelines and by-laws affecting the College
• Draft the College's legal regulations, rules and guidelines
• Establish and manage the Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanism and develop preventive legal policies
• Prepare, review and modify contracts and negotiate documentation for business transactions
• Conduct legal due diligence on prospective lessees, licencees, partners and other third parties
• Vet policy papers and instruments with legal implications for Board approval

Required profile

• Cumulative nine years of relevant work experience, including three years in the grade of Senior Legal Officer or a comparable position
• Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from a recognised institution
• Postgraduate Diploma in Law (Advocates Training Programme) from the Kenya School of Law
• Membership of the Law Society of Kenya
• Admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya
• Certificate in Management of at least four weeks from a recognised institution
• Demonstrated managerial, administrative and professional competence
