Chief Portfolio Officer

About the role

Gatsby Africa is seeking a Chief Portfolio Officer to join its Nairobi office. In this senior executive position you will work closely with the Executive Director and the Senior Management Team to shape the organisation’s long‑term strategy and drive economic transformation across East Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Define and steer Gatsby Africa’s portfolio, programmes, strategic investments and partnership strategy.
• Identify emerging opportunities and align them with the five‑year strategic objectives.
• Oversee evidence generation, learning agendas and impact measurement to ensure system‑wide, sustainable change.
• Collaborate with government bodies, sector experts and NGOs to design and commission innovative interventions.
• Strengthen organisational performance through strategic planning, risk management and resource allocation.
• Represent Gatsby Africa in high‑level stakeholder engagements and advocacy efforts.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in portfolio or programme management within the NGO, development or philanthropic sector.
• Demonstrated ability to shape long‑term strategy and drive large‑scale impact.
• Strong understanding of East African development challenges and government engagement.
• Excellent analytical, communication and partnership‑building skills.
