Communication and Multimedia Internship

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is offering a six‑month internship in Nairobi within the Ecosystems Division’s Regional Seas Branch. The intern will support the planning, research, production and dissemination of communication and multimedia materials for the Regional Seas Programme, which covers 18 Regional Seas Conventions and Action Plans.

Key responsibilities

• Draft and produce communication outputs such as newsletters, website articles, social media posts, briefs, talking points, speeches and human‑interest stories.
• Develop and edit multimedia content including photos, videos, infographics, presentations and other visibility materials.
• Assist in coordinating communication activities across the 18 Regional Seas initiatives.
• Support knowledge‑sharing and storytelling to raise the visibility of UNEP’s work on marine, coastal and aquatic ecosystems.
• Work under the direct supervision of the Head of the Regional Seas Branch or a designated coordinator.

Required profile

• Current enrolment in or recent graduation from a programme in communications, journalism, multimedia, environmental studies or a related field.
• Strong writing and editing abilities in English.
• Demonstrated interest in environmental issues and sustainable development.
• Ability to work effectively in a multicultural, international team.
