Communication Strategy Consultant

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a Communication Strategy Consultant to lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive communication plan for the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) 3.0 (2026‑2035). Based in Nairobi, the consultant will work closely with UNEP staff and national partners to ensure effective stakeholder engagement and multilingual outreach.

Key responsibilities

• Develop a full communication strategy for NBSAP 3.0, including objectives, target audiences, and messaging frameworks.
• Create a detailed road‑map for rolling out the communication strategy across the implementation period.
• Produce a comprehensive report on capacity‑building support provided to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
• Design and produce campaign materials in multiple languages for diverse stakeholder groups.
• Establish and manage communication platforms that enable ongoing engagement between the EPA and its stakeholders.

Required profile

• Proven experience in designing and executing communication strategies for environmental or development programmes.
• Strong background in capacity building, stakeholder analysis, and multilingual content creation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; additional languages are a plus.
• Ability to work collaboratively with international teams and national agencies.
