Cost Accountant

About the role

Remote Raven is recruiting a Cost Accountant for a long‑established commercial electrical contractor in Arizona. The accountant will work closely with project managers to monitor job costs, track budgets, and ensure accurate financial reporting throughout the lifecycle of complex electrical projects.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain detailed project budgets and financial forecasts in collaboration with project managers.
• Track and analyze all job costs, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor expenses.
• Manage change orders end‑to‑end, ensuring proper documentation, pricing, and budget adjustments in the ERP system.
• Prepare monthly job cost reports, variance analyses, and work‑in‑progress schedules for management review.
• Reconcile project costs with general ledger accounts and resolve any discrepancies.
• Support internal and external audits with comprehensive cost documentation.
• Continuously improve cost‑tracking methods, accounting processes, and internal controls.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of construction accounting mechanics such as work‑in‑progress, percentage‑of‑completion, committed costs, and change orders.
• Ability to translate complex accounting concepts into clear language for non‑accountants.
• Detail‑oriented with a focus on data accuracy and timely reporting.
• Experience collaborating with project management teams in a construction environment.

Required skills

• ERP systems (experience with any ERP for cost tracking and budgeting).
