Credit Analyst - Digital Credit

About the role

Absa is hiring a Credit Analyst for its Digital Credit function, based at Absa Headquarters in Kenya. The role supports the development of strategies across the credit cycle, including prospect targeting, acquisition, exposure management, customer marketing, collections and recovery, and ensures credit quality through scorecard deployment, sampling and portfolio quality reviews. It also supports the Head of Retail Credit Risk with monthly scheme portfolio reports, forbearance, limit and annual reviews, and leads the Macroeconomics section.

Key responsibilities

• Risk management models (20%): design and develop credit risk models for the mobile lending product, application and behavioural scorecards, define a credit strategy per portfolio and continuously test them
• Execution and maintenance of models (30%): run and maintain the models to optimise profit, and review and underwrite credit strategies needing subjective input
• Portfolio monitoring (30%): track trends and mitigation strategies, manage a portfolio strategy aligned to performance metrics, prepare monthly macro-economic reviews and carry out regular competitor analysis
• Quality assurance (20%): integrate quality into product and process design and contribute to sales strategies so they reach the right target population
• Support the Head of Retail Credit Risk with monthly scheme reports, forbearance and limit reviews, and annual reviews as needed
• Lead the Macroeconomics section by circulating news highlights, monthly economic reviews, sector and competitor analysis on the retail credit risk portfolio

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in a maths, statistics, economics or operations research field
• Further Education and Training Certificate (FETC) in Business, Commerce and Management Studies (required)
• Comprehensive credit skills and general commercial and industry awareness
• Working knowledge of risk management policies, procedures and pricing
• High analytical ability and proven excellent presentation skills
