Design Specialist (Tech) - Security Systems

About the role

Career Directions Limited (CDL) is hiring a Design Specialist (Tech) in Nairobi, reporting to the Project Design Team Lead and the Senior Business Manager. The role covers design solutions for security and live safety systems such as CCTV, access control, PAVA, entrance control, IPBAX and intercom, and works closely with project managers, engineers and clients.

Key responsibilities

• Design solutions for security and live safety systems, including CCTV, access control, PAVA, entrance control, IPBAX and intercom.
• Prepare 2D and 3D drawings in AutoCAD and other design software, including working drawings and As-Built drawings.
• Conduct site surveys and sketch solutions, then develop bills of quantities.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers and clients to understand project requirements, objectives and constraints, and attend project meetings.
• Manage project communications through minutes of meetings and communicate effectively with team members.
• Identify ways to improve design work, stay up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies, and follow applicable design standards and guidelines.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in an engineering field (mechanical, electrical, civil) or urban planning.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar field.
• Strong understanding of design principles, brand identity and user-centred design.
• Exceptional communication, problem-solving and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Required skills

• Proficiency in AutoCAD and REVIT, or other CAD design software.
• Ability to read and interpret design standards and guidelines.
