About the role
The Director of the Independent Evaluation Office will lead the evaluation function at UNFPA’s Nairobi Headquarters, reporting functionally to the Executive Board and administratively to the Executive Director. The role ensures the independence, credibility and utility of evaluations in line with UNFPA’s Evaluation Policy.
Key responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and overall management of the Independent Evaluation Office.
- Develop and oversee a multi‑year, costed evaluation plan in consultation with the Executive Board and senior management.
- Conduct corporate thematic and country programme evaluations according to the approved plan.
- Offer methodological guidance, technical assistance and capacity development for centralized and decentralized evaluation activities.
- Facilitate learning, knowledge management and dissemination of evaluation findings.
- Represent UNFPA in UNEG and other international evaluation fora, building partnerships and promoting innovation.
Required profile
- Advanced university degree (Master’s equivalent) in Management, Economics, Public Administration, Population/Demography or related social sciences.
- Minimum 15 years of professional evaluation experience, including at least 8 years at the international level.
- Proven ability to lead and manage diverse professional teams for at least 5 years.
- Fluency in English; working knowledge of French or another UN language is highly desirable.
