Donor Relationship Officer – Islamic Philanthropy

About the role
The Donor Relationship Officer will lead the cultivation, acquisition and stewardship of donors across Eastern Africa, with a focus on Islamic philanthropy. Reporting to the Donor Relationship Manager, the role supports MSF’s fundraising strategy and ensures culturally appropriate engagement with Muslim donors and institutions.
Key responsibilities
- Support acquisition, engagement and stewardship of individual, corporate and foundation donors, prioritising Islamic philanthropy networks.
- Develop and manage a portfolio of high‑value donors, creating tailored cultivation and stewardship plans.
- Implement MSF Eastern Africa’s Islamic philanthropy strategy, building relationships with Zakat institutions, Waqf funds, mosques and diaspora groups.
- Identify new donor prospects, prepare funding proposals and contribute to income diversification targets.
- Conduct prospect research, maintain accurate CRM records and produce performance reports for senior management.
- Collaborate with Communications, Programme and Finance teams to ensure donor‑facing materials reflect MSF’s impact.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies, International Relations, Communications, Islamic Studies, Business Administration or related field.
- Minimum two years of professional experience in fundraising, donor relations or partnership management, preferably in an international NGO.
- Strong knowledge of Islamic philanthropy mechanisms (Zakat, Sadaqah, Waqf) and culturally sensitive engagement.
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English; Arabic proficiency is a strong asset.
- Ability to work autonomously, manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Required skills
- Proficiency with donor management CRM systems.
- Experience using Mailchimp or similar email marketing tools.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

- 1‑year renewable full‑time contract based in Nairobi, Kenya.
- Annual salary of €23,296.
