Electrical Design Engineer

About the role

We are looking for an Electrical Design Engineer to join a leading renewable energy consulting firm in Nairobi. You will be responsible for designing inverter stations, medium‑voltage transformer and switching stations, and utility metering systems for utility‑scale solar projects.

Key responsibilities

• Design and engineer inverter stations, MV transformer stations, MV switching stations, and utility metering systems.
• Interpret specifications and drawings to create safe, functional designs for cable layouts, equipment layouts, lighting, earthing, and lightning protection using CAD.
• Size cable trays, trenches, and underground raceways; prepare single‑line diagrams and schematics.
• Develop layouts for Main Control Rooms (MCR) and Inverter Stations (IS).
• Perform cable sizing calculations and control cable length estimations.
• Enhance existing AutoCAD applications with plugins and custom features.
• Collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and clients while staying updated on new product technologies.
• Develop and implement standard operating procedures and system processes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
• 1‑3 years of experience in solar PV design, substation engineering, or power system studies.
• Experience in consultancy or EPC environments, preferably on utility‑scale solar projects.
• Willingness to travel for site visits in Kenya and abroad.

Required skills

• Proficiency in AutoCAD.
• Strong command of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Knowledge of DC & AC engineering standards (IEC, NEC, IEEE, ANSI, SEC, IS).
