Embedded Engineer – Safety-Critical Gas & Flame Detection

About the role

We are looking for an Embedded Engineer to join Honeywell’s Industrial Safety Engineering team, developing safety‑critical gas and flame detection products. The role focuses on embedded and FPGA‑based signal acquisition and control systems for high‑reliability industrial environments.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in the development of embedded software and systems, ensuring compliance with functional safety standards.
• Design and implement new features on embedded platforms, managing the full software lifecycle from requirements to testing.
• Develop and execute comprehensive test plans, including unit, integration and system tests, using automated testing frameworks.
• Create and validate FPGA‑based interfaces and processing blocks for high‑speed sensor data capture, timing control, filtering, co‑adding and real‑time signal processing.
• Support laser driver development, including current/temperature control, modulation, protection features, calibration and laboratory validation.
• Collaborate with optical and spectroscopy teams to translate laser spectroscopy requirements into firmware, FPGA logic, control algorithms and diagnostic utilities.
• Perform proof‑of‑concept firmware development, FPGA/SoC bring‑up, high‑speed data acquisition software, technical reporting and documentation.

Required profile

• Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering or a related field.
• 0–3 years of experience in embedded system design and FPGA‑based data acquisition.
• Hands‑on experience with laser driver development and an understanding of laser spectroscopy principles.
• Familiarity with functional safety requirements and standards such as IEC 61508 SIL 2 and EN 60079‑29‑1.
