External Examiner – School of Nursing

About the role

The School of Nursing at Mount Kenya University seeks an experienced External Examiner to uphold academic standards and ensure quality in assessment processes. This senior academic position involves independent moderation of examinations, curriculum advice, and reporting on programme quality.

Key responsibilities

• Moderate examination papers and marking schemes before they are administered.
• Review and moderate marked scripts, projects, dissertations, theses and other assessments.
• Evaluate academic standards against national and international benchmarks.
• Provide independent reports on the quality and standards of academic programmes.
• Advise the university on curriculum development, assessment practices and academic quality enhancement.
• Attend examination boards and academic meetings when invited.
• Submit annual reports on the conduct and standards of examinations and academic programmes.

Required profile

• Earned PhD degree in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution.
• Rank of Senior Lecturer or equivalent at a recognized university or higher‑learning institution.
• Strong record of teaching, research and academic supervision in the relevant field.
• Experience in examination moderation, curriculum development and quality assurance.
• Registration with the relevant professional body where applicable.
• Not currently employed by Mount Kenya University.
