Finance Intern - Accounts Payable

About the role

British American Tobacco (BAT) is offering a full-time Finance Intern position in Nairobi, Kenya, within its Corporate Finance / Accounts Payable department. The intern provides support to the Accounts Payable (AP) team under direct supervision, gaining hands-on experience in invoice processing, payment preparation, tax checks, supplier queries, record keeping and audit documentation.

Key responsibilities

• Log, track and code supplier invoices before they are reviewed, approved and posted.
• Support preparation of payment instructions, block/unblock schedules, urgent payment requests and issuance of proofs of payment to vendors.
• Track invoices sent to Global Business Services, follow up on posting status and remind requisitioners and approvers.
• Assist with withholding tax schedules and withholding VAT checks using established corporate templates.
• Respond to routine supplier payment queries, escalate complex issues to the Accounts Payable Manager and keep AP trackers and audit trails organised.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or ongoing undergraduate studies in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration or a related field.
• Basic understanding of standard accounting principles and accounts payable operations.
• Attention to detail, willingness to learn, teamwork, clear communication and ability to follow compliance procedures.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel).
• Exposure to SAP or other ERP systems is an advantage.
