Finance Intern

About the role

The Finance Intern will support the Finance and Operations portfolio of Urgent Action Fund‑Africa, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in daily financial tasks. Working under close supervision, the intern will gain hands‑on experience with payment processing, reconciliations, and financial documentation.

Key responsibilities

• Organise and assess supporting documents for payment vouchers, ensuring completeness.
• Manage petty‑cash disbursement, reconciliation and replenishment under supervision.
• Assist in monthly bank, petty‑cash and credit‑card reconciliations, flagging discrepancies.
• Support verification and tagging of assets and maintain an updated asset register.
• Prepare and issue Local Purchase Orders (LPOs) in line with procurement procedures.
• File financial documentation for easy retrieval and audit readiness.
• Provide assistance during external and internal audits, preparing schedules and gathering supporting documents.
• Perform supplier reconciliations and due‑diligence checks, including AML and compliance reviews.
• Enter data into accounting software and help prepare financial reports.
• Review staff accountability documents such as travel advances and expense reports.

Required profile

• Enrolled in a finance, accounting or related degree program.
• Detail‑oriented with ability to follow supervision and guidance.
• Strong organisational skills for handling documents and records.

Required skills

• Data entry.
• Basic use of accounting software.
• Familiarity with financial documentation and reconciliation processes.
