Freshwater & Urban Resilience Expert

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a Freshwater & Urban Resilience Expert to support its work in Nairobi, Kenya. The role focuses on freshwater management, urban ecosystem conservation, and climate resilience at national and international levels.

Key responsibilities

• Engage with stakeholders and coordinate multi‑country or multi‑partner project activities.
• Support intergovernmental and policy processes such as UNEA, UN‑Water, and UNFCCC.
• Prepare technical knowledge products, including briefs, guidance materials, and event/meeting documentation.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary and multicultural teams of national and international experts.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in environmental science, water resources management, urban planning, ecology or related field (or Bachelor’s degree with two additional years of experience).
• Minimum two years of professional experience in freshwater/water resources management, urban ecosystem conservation, or drought and climate resilience.
• Experience in stakeholder engagement, multi‑partner project coordination, and support to intergovernmental or policy processes.
• Proven ability to work with minimal supervision and meet tight deadlines.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
• Computer literacy with email and internet use.
• Familiarity with database or indicator‑tracking tools (desirable).
