General Accountant – Full‑time, Nairobi

About the role

The General Accountant will maintain accurate accounting records, post and review journals, manage inter‑company accounts and staff, and handle payroll‑related deductions and tax submissions. The role also includes bank reconciliations, month‑end closing support and resolution of account discrepancies. This full‑time position is based in Nairobi.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain accurate books of accounts and post general accounting journals.
• Classify and post expenses to the correct GL accounts and review accruals, provisions and pre‑payments monthly.
• Conduct full trial‑balance reviews, prepare supporting schedules and ensure proper journal approvals.
• Support month‑end, annual reporting, audit and budgeting processes, including cost allocation and NWC/Forex analysis.
• Handle tax filing and VAT management, reconcile iTax with local books, and ensure timely VAT and WHT submissions.
• Prepare and submit payroll deductions (NSSF, NHIF, AHL, NITA, etc.) and maintain clean tax accounts in SAP.
• Approve disbursement costs and general expenses, ensuring proper documentation and cost recovery.
• Provide inventory management reports, support stock counts and reconcile inventory variances.
• Prepare monthly bank reconciliations, resolve reconciling items and liaise with treasury.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in commerce, finance or accounting.
• Professional qualification such as CPA(K), ACCA, CFA or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar accounting role.
