General Cashier

About the role

The General Cashier at Fairmont The Norfolk is responsible for overseeing cash, cheque and credit‑card transactions across the Front Office, Food & Beverage and other departments. This role ensures accurate collection, verification, banking and reporting of all monetary flows, supporting the hotel’s financial integrity and guest service standards.

Key responsibilities

• Collect and verify Front Office and F&B remittance envelopes with an assigned witness.
• Count cash, cheques and credit‑card vouchers, matching them to computerized remittance reports.
• Prepare bank deposits for all cash and cheques, ensuring full and intact deposits.
• Compile and balance daily credit‑card sales vouchers for banking.
• Update daily foreign‑exchange rates in the PMS system.
• Disburse approved petty‑cash requests and prepare summary reports.
• Maintain and reconcile the house bank, producing periodic recapitulations.
• Generate the General Cashier’s Daily Report for review by the Income Auditor and Finance Manager.
• Produce cash and foreign‑exchange control reports as required by local law.
• Ensure cash advances receive approval from the General Manager and Finance Director.
• Assist with surprise cash counts and follow up on bank clearing drafts.

Required profile

• Proven experience in cash handling and financial reconciliation within a hospitality environment.
• Ability to work accurately with witnesses and follow strict verification procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and compliance with local financial regulations.
• Capability to prepare and present detailed financial reports.
