General Manager – Agricultural Economics

About the role

We are looking for a highly analytical and strategic General Manager – Agricultural Economics to lead economic planning, financial analysis and commercial performance of our agricultural operations in Murang'a. The role will drive profitability, operational efficiency and sustainable growth across coffee, avocado, livestock and other agribusiness value chains.

Key responsibilities

• Lead planning, monitoring and evaluation of agricultural operations and commercial performance.
• Analyse value chains to identify profitability, value‑addition and growth opportunities.
• Develop and monitor annual budgets, forecasts, financial models and long‑term business plans.
• Track production costs, input prices, revenues, margins and key operational indicators, recommending corrective actions.
• Conduct market research on commodity prices, consumer trends, export markets and competitors.
• Prepare business cases and investment proposals for agritourism, regenerative agriculture and new ventures.
• Advise management on emerging trends and technologies such as BSF farming, precision agriculture and climate‑smart practices.
• Collaborate with Farm Managers to improve productivity, resource utilisation and cost efficiency.
• Develop dashboards and timely economic, financial and operational reports for senior management.
• Ensure compliance with agricultural, environmental and statutory requirements and lead staff development.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness Management, Economics, Agriculture or related field.
• Minimum 5 years progressive experience in agricultural economics, agribusiness or commercial farming, including leadership responsibility.
• Practical experience in coffee, horticulture, avocado, livestock or mixed farming operations.
• Strong background in budgeting, financial modelling, forecasting and cost analysis.
• In‑depth knowledge of agricultural markets, value chains and commercial farm management.
• Familiarity with emerging agricultural trends and technologies such as BSF farming, regenerative and climate‑smart agriculture.
• Excellent leadership, communication, analytical and stakeholder‑management skills.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with data analysis and reporting tools.
