Government Relations Lead – Africa

About the role

Sumsub is seeking a Government Relations Lead for the Africa region to champion the company’s interests with policymakers and industry bodies, focusing on fintech, cryptocurrency, DeFi and digital identity regulation.

Key responsibilities

• Support Sumsub’s public policy and government relations strategy across priority African markets, especially Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa and Francophone West/Central Africa.
• Build and maintain relationships with regulators, ministries and law‑enforcement agencies such as CBN, CBK, SARB/FSCA and BCEAO.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments, provide trend analysis and actionable insights to global stakeholders.
• Collaborate with Legal, Compliance and Product teams to align advocacy with business goals and market‑entry plans.
• Represent Sumsub at panels, roundtables and conferences, delivering thought‑leadership on compliance technology and digital trust.

Required profile

• 3–5 years of experience in public policy, government relations or regulatory affairs, preferably in fintech, crypto or DeFi.
• Familiarity with regulatory frameworks in Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa or Francophone West/Central Africa.
• Excellent written and verbal communication in English; additional languages such as French, Swahili or Afrikaans are a plus.
• Confident public speaker with strong relationship‑building abilities.
• Willingness to travel up to 25 % across African markets and internationally.
