Guidance Counsellor (Fixed‑Term, 8 hrs/week)

About the role

The Guidance Counsellor will join Scoil Aireagail to provide professional guidance and support services to students, aligning with the core focus on teaching and learning of the Kilkenny and Carlow Education and Training Board.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver individual and group guidance sessions covering personal, social and educational development.
• Develop and implement curriculum‑linked guidance programmes and health education activities.
• Maintain accurate student records and produce reports for senior management.
• Collaborate with teachers, parents and external agencies to support student wellbeing.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of guidance provision within the school.

Required profile

• Current registration with the Teaching Council of Ireland and a valid registration certificate.
• Recognised teaching qualification meeting the Council’s general and special requirements.
• Demonstrated professional knowledge of guidance counselling principles and the Irish education system.
• Evidence of professional practice, communication skills and self‑management through competency statements (max 300 words each).

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of guidance counselling theory and practice.
• Ability to integrate guidance activities with cross‑curricular links such as literacy, numeracy and critical thinking.
• Familiarity with curriculum development and implementation supports.
