About the role
A leading international academy in Nairobi is seeking an experienced Head of Languages to provide academic leadership, oversee curriculum delivery, and teach English and Literature across IGCSE and A Level programmes.
Key responsibilities
- Provide strategic and academic leadership for the Languages Department.
- Plan, implement and evaluate the Cambridge English and Literature curriculum.
- Teach English and Literature to assigned year groups, including Cambridge International A Level.
- Prepare students for IGCSE and A Level examinations and monitor academic performance.
- Develop schemes of work, lesson plans, assessments and departmental targets.
- Mentor, coach and supervise language teachers to promote high‑quality teaching.
- Analyse assessment data, implement improvement strategies and ensure adherence to Cambridge standards.
- Foster a positive learning environment that encourages critical thinking and effective communication.
- Coordinate departmental meetings, academic planning and quality‑assurance activities.
- Maintain communication with parents and school leadership regarding progress.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Education with a focus on English and Literature.
- Minimum 10 years of teaching experience in a Cambridge curriculum school.
- Previous experience as Head of Department in a Cambridge‑based institution.
- At least 2 years teaching Cambridge International A Level English and Literature.
- Proven track record of preparing students for Cambridge examinations with strong results.
Required skills
- Strong leadership and team‑management abilities.
- Extensive knowledge of the Cambridge curriculum and assessment framework.
- Excellent communication, mentoring and interpersonal skills.
- Curriculum planning, assessment design and quality‑assurance expertise.
- Ability to inspire, motivate and develop teaching staff.
