Head of Theatre

About the role

The Nairobi West Hospital is seeking an experienced Medical Consultant to lead theatre operations and surgical services. The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership, ensure safe surgical care, and optimise theatre utilisation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate theatre operations, surgical scheduling, emergency procedures and theatre utilisation.
• Ensure compliance with surgical safety protocols, infection prevention and control standards, clinical guidelines and hospital policies.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary surgical teams and oversee theatre staffing, equipment, supplies and inventory.
• Monitor theatre performance, patient safety, surgical outcomes and operational efficiency.
• Lead clinical audits, risk management and quality improvement initiatives.
• Prepare performance reports and advise Hospital Management on operational improvements.

Required profile

• MBChB or equivalent recognised medical qualification.
• Postgraduate specialist qualification in anaesthesia.
• Valid registration and practising licence with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
• At least five years of post‑specialisation clinical experience, including substantial experience in theatre operations and surgical services management.
• Demonstrated leadership, multidisciplinary team coordination, clinical governance and patient safety experience.
