Head of Venture Building, Jobtech Alliance

About the role

BFA Global is an impact innovation firm combining research, advisory, venture building and investment expertise. Its Jobtech Alliance, an ecosystem-building initiative with Prosper Global, advances the jobtech sector in Africa by working with technology platforms, entrepreneurs, investors and partners to create more, better and more inclusive work opportunities. As the scale phase begins, the alliance is expanding its work with jobtech companies. The Head of Venture Building oversees venture-building engagements, ensuring they meet high-quality standards, align with strategic goals and achieve job-creation targets.

Key responsibilities

• With the sourcing lead, identify and assess promising jobtech companies, understand their business models and growth potential, and define inclusion and engagement hypotheses for each platform.
• Assign venture leads and support specialists, coordinate contracting with the project manager and PMU team, and connect companies with investors and partners.
• Review Sprint 0 notes and quality-assure engagement designs, workplans, technical assistance scopes and milestones before implementation.
• Set realistic transition-to-work targets, allocate team members and technical specialists, and run structured check-ins and post-engagement reviews.
• Embed gender and inclusion considerations, and ensure interventions address barriers such as demand generation, matching, pricing, retention and scalability.
• Work with the research lead to find patterns across engagements, document what works, and contribute to strategy reviews, case studies and donor reporting.

Required profile

• 8-12 years of experience in venture building, digital platforms, startup support, management consulting, portfolio management, entrepreneurship, venture capital, impact investing or related fields.
• Demonstrated experience working directly with startups, technology companies, digital platforms, founders or growth-stage businesses, ideally in Africa or other emerging markets.
• Experience overseeing a portfolio of companies or multiple concurrent engagements.
• Experience designing or managing technical assistance, consulting engagements, venture-building programs, accelerators or similar interventions.

Required skills

• Strong understanding of platform business models and the link between growth, demand generation, worker participation, revenue and job creation.
• Strong analytical skills and comfort working with company and platform data.
• Ability to advise program leadership on portfolio strategy and quality of technical assistance.
