Heavy Equipment Mechanic

About the role

MANTECH is seeking a motivated Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join its vehicle sustainment team in Kenya. The role supports the Allied Logistics Engineering Capabilities Sustainment (ALECS) program, providing maintenance and engineering support for a variety of vehicle families worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Research, plan, design and develop new applications for electro‑mechanical equipment and systems.
• Design, repair, and review gas and diesel engines, hydraulic, pneumatic, ventilation and instrumentation systems.
• Guide and assist technicians in fabrication and installation of mechanical equipment to ensure compliance with engineering designs.
• Evaluate field installations, recommend design modifications, and correct drawings as needed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Minimum 6 + years of automotive maintenance/mechanical experience with light or heavy‑duty trucks, tractors, tactical vehicles, generators, or similar equipment.
• Proven experience applying industry or military troubleshooting procedures to isolate faulty components.
• Experience supporting U.S. systems and subsystems at component level, including design, installation, analysis, maintenance and repair.
• Valid driver’s license for the work location, high school diploma or GED, and a passport valid for at least one year.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain an active Secret clearance.
• Physical ability to lift 50 lb, work in high‑noise areas, and perform tasks such as bending, crouching and kneeling.

Required skills

• Proficiency with hand tools, diagnostic tools, power tools and multi‑meters.
• Ability to operate forklifts and drive vehicles with manual transmission.
• Experience with HMMWV, FMTV, HEMTT, PLS, trailers and power generation equipment (preferred).
• Computer literacy, including use of CRT displays and keyboard typing.
