Inpatient Team Leader

About the role

Avenue Healthcare is looking for an Inpatient Team Leader to provide clinical and operational oversight of inpatient wards, the theatre and the cath lab in Westlands, Kenya. The role focuses on optimizing patient flow, ensuring high‑quality care, and maintaining compliance with clinical governance standards.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day‑to‑day clinical and operational activities across inpatient wards, theatre and cath lab.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary management of complex patients and monitor key flow indicators such as admission/discharge turnaround time, average length of stay, and unplanned ICU/HDU transfers.
• Work closely with nursing teams to resolve bottlenecks, address prolonged stays and escalate capacity risks to the Clinical Operations Manager.
• Monitor theatre and cath lab utilization, cancellations, start‑time delays, turnaround times and procedural complications; implement corrective actions.
• Track clinical quality, patient‑safety and governance metrics including mortality, complications, infections and adverse events.
• Ensure timely reporting of significant incidents, conduct root‑cause analysis and drive corrective actions.
• Lead or support quality‑improvement projects and participate in clinical governance committees.
• Manage mortality and morbidity case reviews, monitor trends and ensure recommendations are acted upon.
• Ensure compliance with clinical protocols, standard treatment guidelines, pathways and hospital policies, and maintain complete clinical documentation.

Required profile

• Experience in inpatient clinical operations or a similar healthcare setting.
• Strong understanding of patient flow management and theatre/cath lab processes.
• Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and drive operational improvements.
• Attention to detail in clinical documentation and governance reporting.
