About the role
The Java Backend Engineering Team Lead will guide a talented group of software engineers, driving the design, development, and maintenance of our platform’s core services. You will work in an agile environment, ensuring high‑quality, secure, and scalable solutions.
Key responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop individual engineers on the team.
- Coordinate and prioritize the software engineering workload.
- Design, develop, test, and maintain new features and micro‑services on the platform.
- Apply software engineering best practices, including secure coding and data protection.
- Document code and architectural decisions for future reference.
Required profile
- 8+ years of backend engineering experience with JVM languages.
- 3+ years of formal leadership experience managing Java backend engineers.
- Based in Kenya with excellent English communication skills.

- Java (core and advanced)
- Spring framework and related Java backend tools
- Microservices architecture
- Amazon Web Services (AWS)
- Salesforce CRM knowledge (optional)
