Lecturer – Civil Engineering (Roads, Transportation & Traffic)

About the role

Kirinyaga University is seeking a full‑time Lecturer in Civil Engineering with a focus on Roads, Transportation and Traffic Engineering. The successful candidate will join the Department of Civil Engineering to teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses, supervise research, and contribute to curriculum development.

Key responsibilities

• Teach and evaluate undergraduate and postgraduate students in civil engineering subjects.
• Set, moderate, administer, process and mark examinations.
• Provide academic advising and mentorship to students.
• Develop and update teaching and learning materials, including lecture notes and lab manuals.
• Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects and develop research proposals for funding.
• Participate in departmental, faculty and university meetings, strategic planning and interdisciplinary collaborations.
• Organise and supervise educational activities such as seminars, workshops and field trips.
• Attend and present at national and international conferences related to civil engineering.
• Carry out administrative, academic and consultancy duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Earned PhD or equivalent in Civil Engineering (Roads, Transportation & Traffic) or a Master’s degree with at least three years of teaching, research or industry experience.
• Registration with the Engineers Board of Kenya.
• Minimum of 24 publication points, with at least 10 refereed journal papers.
