Legal Counsel – Corporate Investment Bank & Commercial Services

About the role

The Legal Counsel will provide dedicated legal support to the Corporate Investment Bank (CIB) and Commercial Services functions, handling deal structuring, contract review and general legal advice.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Head of Legal with deal transactions, securities structuring, finance documentation, credit papers, term sheets and product documentation.
• Support business recoveries, restructuring, insolvency, enforcement and litigation for CIB.
• Review supplier contracts, leases, licenses and negotiate with suppliers for Commercial Services.
• Provide general legal advisory, risk management and cost management across both business areas.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree and admission as an Advocate of the High Court.
• Minimum 7 years post‑admission experience in banking and finance law, preferably in corporate & investment banking or a leading commercial law firm.
• Experience in financing transactions, restructurings, recoveries and banking litigation.
• Exposure to cross‑border transactions and securities structures is an advantage.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of banking and finance law, structured finance and lending transactions.
• Expertise in security structures, insolvency, restructuring, recoveries and enforcement.
• Excellent legal drafting and negotiation abilities.
• Understanding of credit risk, banking products and LMA standard documentation.
